Life’s Job

Life’s job is to push you to your edge
until you have no edges.
Life’s job is to break your heart-
again and again-
until there is a soft
emptiness through
which love can flow.
Life’s job is to bring all your
weaknesses to your awareness
so that you can make them strengths.
To bring the excuses
of why you cannot be loved
to the surface so you can confront
them on the battlefield and slay
them one by one.
Life’s job is to tempt you from
the breakthrough-
with distraction and sound,
getting louder and stronger
the closer you get.

Your job is to never forget
this and to dive in completely,
whole-heartedly,
as life tempers you
in the most beautiful way.
