Beautiful Woman And Bird

Surrender

If there is another way to surrender,
please show me how.

I have built my altar
and knelt before it.

I have bowed my head
to honor all that is beyond me.

I lay naked against the Earth
in utmost submission,
yet that has not been enough.

The winds devastated me,
the water overpowered me,
and the flames took everything
down to the ground until nothing but ashes remained.

The white clothes I wore,
in a gesture of surrender,
are charred and rimmed with black.

Yet still, there is more
you want me to lay down
in surrender.

Let the mystery lift,
so that I can drop
whatever
that last piece of
resistance is.
