Welcome to my website

This has been a project I have longed for and couldn’t quite find the way to begin. Thank you to Kourosh of Kurrent for taking my vision and turning it into something much more than I thought was possible to create!

It seems only fitting that my first blog post on this fresh website would be the story of how my artwork has come to be.

How this all began…

Ever since I was a child I always felt most alive and comfortable in the world of Nature. Outdoors I felt myself open up and the limitations of society fall away. I would spend time exploring the beauty around me in a meditative curiosity. I was fortunate to grow up in the high sierras where beauty is plentiful and there were many incredible places to explore. I found that art and creativity allowed me to express some of the insights I uncovered in my explorations. It gave me a medium to work through emotions and process life experiences. I finished my time in Truckee and moved to Arcata on the coast in Humboldt and studied World Religions, Cosmology and Healing Traditions. I studied mysticism and shamanism and was able to expand my understanding of the world. This was a time of reflection and study- I felt like I was storing up experiences to share through my art at the opportune time. Upon completing my degree in Religious Studies I moved to Nevada City in the foothills below my childhood home. In this creative community I found a catalyst to begin my artwork again. The birth of my son further expanded my creativity and inspired me to paint.

My painting process is what I call “focused freedom”. I meditate and focus my mind on an experience I wish to portray. Then I breathe powerfully and let the creative process begin. At times my painting is very free-flowing and wild, yet there is still an order and intention to it. Much like the natural world itself, my artwork has a very organic feel with a balance of order and chaos. I also find a Zen-like feel in my artwork due to this combination of refinement with lack of restraint. Most times the painting I set out to create changes course and becomes something beyond what I thought I was capable of.

The artwork you see on my website and in my etsy store are expressions of this deep reflection and a powerful love of the natural world. I try to capture images and impressions of the natural world, but in a way that appeals to a contemporary eye. My hope is to bring the beauty of the outdoors inside our homes to inspire us all to maintain our awe and wonder of the Universe even when we are enclosed in a human made reality.

Please be sure to follow my blog, join my mailing list or join me on at www.tiffanaya.etsy.com for new pieces that are in works and upcoming shows.

Thank you for supporting art and celebrating natural beauty!

Blessings,
